A machine that replaces 10 people and only 1 is required to maintain it. Having those 10 people learn how to repair it becomes redundant. The end goal of every society should be how to evolve and not have to work. How to get to the point where all your basic needs are provided and you will be able to spend %100 of your time perusing your own spiritual, intellectual and physical goals. .
Every time technology improves people have chosen of their own free will to continue working for a higher standard of living. You could easily sustain a middle class lifestyle from 100 years ago subsiding on only gov't handouts and charity, but very few people make that choice. Your assumption that working isn't something we're hardwired to do is flawed, imo.

You are stating this as if its fact and then drawing conclusions from it. This isn't an inevitable outcome and doesn't seem especially likely to me. You can't extrapolate things forever, and Ray Kurzweil does not have a monopoly on making bad predictions about the future.
