I kind of wonder if this decision was driven by Uncharted.
Fall 2015 is the same launch window to expect for both titles and Tomb Raider was already being compared to Uncharted last gen.
Gives Microsoft a title they can tout as a competitor to Uncharted from a style perspective as an exclusive when Uncharted is scheduled to launch as a major PS4 exclusive.
Also allows Square-Enix to not have to go head to head with Uncharted in the same launch window for PS4 sales and they can launch in Q2 2016 with a definitive edition that won't fight for sales with Uncharted for the treasure hunting, 3rd person, action niche.
