It is. Any bicycle with a combustion engine is illegal. If you get caught its a $520 for no insurance, $500 dollar fine for no motorcycle license and depending on the cop impoundment of the vehicle. Alberta has the same laws regarding MACs except in Alberta ebikers need motorcycle helmets.

I have seen people stopped and fined.
