Todd Button said it best when talking about Poirier and was directly asked about Poirier's over-aggressiveness and propensity to take too many penalties. Paraphrasing here since I can't remember the exact quote (and it was on a radio interview somewhere):
"It is much easier to work with an over-aggressive prospect and get that under control than it is to increase it in a prospect that shows no aggression."
Something like that.
Yeah, maybe Bennett goes on to take a couple of bad penalties, but he should smarten up as he matures and gets good coaching. Things that separate guys like him from complete DB's in the league is that they put their team first - and they learn in time that when they act up or go too far, they hurt their team more, rather than be 'standing up' for their teammates and the logo on their chest. I have no worries at all that Bennett (and Poirier) will learn to pick their spots and not hurt the team, outside of a few bad penalties a year, and this aggression will just make them very difficult to play against.
