Default Home Phone Line

So, I have been keeping my home phone number going for several years now mostly out of convenience.
I am moving though and Telus won't let me keep the same phone number. This seems like a good enough reason to finally get off my butt and setup something new.

We mostly use the home phone to call family or when I have to sit on hold with some company and don't want to waste cell time/battery life.

We pay $25 a month right now for the phone, caller ID and voice mail.

I would like to keep my existing number if possible, but it isn't the end of the world if I can't.

I like having a physical cordless phone that rings in the house.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
