The CPU changes its strategy when trailing late in the game and it would appear that those complaining do not. When the other team goes all out attack you need to change your strategy accordingly (remember you control those strategies so your the only one to blame for not reacting to them).
The reason you see more shots from far away go in is because the computer shoots more late in the game when trailing. Those same shots from the point with bodies in front would go in if it was the first period as well but the CPU strategy is not setup to take them that early on.
Its seems weird that people want a "simulation" but would prefer the computer AI to play the exact same way the entire game which would be arcade game play. You cant have both.
