Loob was also the first player to win a Stanley Cup, World Championship and Olympic Gold if I recall correctly.
He is so difficult to explain to the new generation of fans.
He left in his absolute prime, and went out on top.
The closest I could say right now would be if Anze Kopitar left the NHL and went to play in Slovenia. Or more accurately, Anze Kopitar left after the first cup and went back to play for Slovenia. One of the differences was that Loob was also a First Team All Star though.
Before the "power ring" that goes along the balcony, in 1987 fans started a Loob sign. Then after each goal another "O" would be added to Loob. He scored 50 that season. It was awesome to see as a fan.
