I don't think people purposely park beside a car to be an ahole. I think a lot of times, they're subconsciously using the other car as a guide for the parking spot. It's probably easier to judge the spot than focus on the the lines. I notice this happens quite a bit for people who aren't that good at parking. They probably pulled in without even thinking of the fact that there's a reason why someone parked further out and away from other vehicles. In their mind, they're probably thinking it's because that person is a crappy parker too and needed the extra room.

This is exactly what I'm saying!!
And I actually prefer to have a vehicle on my right as a guide, not to leave space for myself to get out but because it seems easier to judge my turning radius that way, vs having a vehicle on my drivers side and trying to angle it correctly to get myself into the spot.
