Definitely not the best comic book movie IMO. It's a fantastic movie overall, but if you're looking for your favorite comic book characters to come to life on the big screen and do all the awesome stuff they do in the books then nothing tops The Avengers. The Dark Knight series as a whole never really seemed to know what direction to take, as most of the time it comes across as a realistic version of what a comic book hero might be. But then it goes completely off the rails at points with crazy microwave emitters blowing up water pipes, Batman getting surround-o-vision through cellphones, and basically the entire premise of Dark Knight Rises
I really wish Nolan would have stuck to trying to make his Batman as realistic as possible, because that's where it was the strongest. His modern interpretations of Joker and Bane were great and didn't need the over-the-top technology or evil master plans to succeed
