We can go ahead and assume everyone on this planet is lovely, but even lovely people will accident hit your car so again, why not walk a few extra seconds and eliminate the possibility since I love my car? Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Agreed, I don't think there is anything wrong with parking in the wilderness. In the past, I've parked beside those people without really knowing it was about protection, so now maybe my philosophy changes a bit.
