you can't compare crosby's contract to any of the top contracts handed out this summer. That was signed 6 years ago. When his contract was signed, the NHL cap was $57 million. It's almost 15 million bucks more now, after a new CBA, so it's a much different economic structure.
This summer has shown that top ~10 forwards and top ~10 dmen are now 9-11 million dollar players in the current economic structure of the league. i am certain that stamkos gets 10.5 maybe even 11 million or more when his time comes soon.
