I guarantee this being a non-elimination leg has everything to do with demographics and nothing to do with random happenstance. If Suki and Jinder were eliminated it would instantly kill interest in much of the brown/indian audience watching the series. In all honesty, you could break each team down to the demographic audience they hit.
1. Rex and Bob - Gay community
2. Mickey and Pete - 15 year old girls
3. Pierre and Michel - Quebec/Francophone
4. Laura and Jackie - Lesbian community
5. Ryan and Rob - 21-30 year old ladies/west coasters
6. Jen and Shawn - East coasters/middle aged couples
7. Cormac and Nicole - Prairies, and the typical mother/son duo
8. Sukhi and Jinder - Ethnic community (honestly surprised there isn't also an Asian team)
9. Natalie and Meaghan - Star power, team that can be advertised across the country and general audiences will tune in because they are familiar with them as gold medalists (just like Hal and Joanne from season 1)
10. Alain and Audrey - Quebec/young couple/typical fighting couple who frequently have breakdowns only to kiss and make up afterwards
11. Shahla and Nabeela - Ethnic community x2 (so glad they were booted right away)
