He didn't say that, he said "I'll say that your car doesn't have to be expensive to give a damn about protecting it". Meaning you could have a Neon but still be concerned about protecting it.

Heh, if "what possible reason for parking next to a car not near anything" isn't a valid question then this isn't either.

But there are lots of reasons. Some parking lots have very narrow stalls and some cars have very long doors making it difficult at best and impossible if someone parks just a little on the side of their stall, so they park far away to avoid dinging someone else's door; I've done this before. I've also had my car door dinged after parking far away in a lot with narrow stalls and someone parked next to me.

Sometimes people have back problems or other physical things that mean they need more time to get in and out, or can't hold their door away from the neighbouring car and easily get out, so want to be able to swing their door fully out.

Sometimes when I'm shopping for something bigger I know I'll have to put in the back seat, I'll park far back so that when I come back to my car I'll be able to fully open the doors and have enough room to get it in; not possible if someone's parked beside me. NE Canadian Tire is almost impossible for this.

I'm sure there's tons of others.
