I'm sorry, I have travelled, and the stranger in a strange land thing doesn't hold water. When you come to a new Country, part of the onus is on you to try and adapt to local customs and courtesies. People from India don't come here and poo on the sidewalk even though it is the norm there. People from Japan don't take off their shoes when they go to The Keg.

There is certainly some religious standards that carry over, and people are free to express. But when it comes to common courtesy, if you don't adapt to a new culture, and be respectful of others in that culture, your just a selfish a-hole then. No matter where you go.

I certainly wouldn't go to Iran, crack a beer, and crank Motley Crue with my windows down with a topless hooker in the passenger seat. I would respect the local customs.

Yeah, you might. If the people are about as understanding as you are. Some things that are considered courteous here is actually considered rude in other countries.

My point is not that people shouldn't try to get used to the customs of the place they're living, but this close parking thing, I'm telling you, it barely seems to be a thing. I've truly never heard of it before, not because I'm socially inept or a selfish a-hole, I've just.. never... heard of it. And you know what? It'll probably pop into my head now and then when I see it, and I'll think "Hey, maybe I shouldn't park there."

All I'm saying is give some sort of value to the fact instead of being disrespectful, some people just don't know about this minor unwritten rule. You know it, so to you it is obvious. But like how I will now likely consider the need for space when seeing a line vehicle in the parking lot, I'd like you to just think that "hey, maybe they just didn't know" instead of assuming they're bad people. That's all! I don't think it's ridiculous, but maybe I'm just naive.
