Your version of common courtesy is entirely subjective, and unfortunately you have to account for the fact that these things aren't universal, and you are going to run into people that haven't heard of these rules. That's life. It's ridiculous to think that every person of every upbringing and world experience comes equipped with the same version of "common courtesy." Very few are universal, and a few more translate well in similar cultures, but that's it.
Don't travel. Your definition of common courtesy would be terribly violated. If you act like you do here in some places, you'd be relentlessly mocked all the same by people similar to yourself.
