Game 5: BC Lions at STAMPEDERS
The only unbeaten team in the CFL Calgary Stampeders will face the inconsistent BC Lions tomorrow night at McMahon Stadium 8pm.
During the pre-season QB Kevin Glenn played well but I am not sure he will have a repeat tomorrow night against the Stamps. On the pre-season game against BC I was actually worried on our defense because I don't think I've seen them put a pressure on Kevin Glenn that night not even once. When the regular season starts, I lost all my doubts on Stubler's defensive system. After 4 games, I believed Calgary only surrendered 3 TDs so far. DLine has been playing well so as the rest of the defensive group.
OFFENSE :
QB Bo Levi Mitchell hasn't been lighting up the board in the last two games. With Canadian RB Jon Cornish still out and his backup also Canadian Matt Walter out of the game, in comes an import RB Martell Mallett platooning with another import RB Jock Sanders. Due to the ratio, Stamps officially put #82 Nik Lewis as a healthy scratch.
Even though the OLine lost a couple of their starters Jones and Craighead, the line still finished off well last game vs the Eskimos. 1st round pick overall Pierre Lavertu did an amicably job replacing C Brett Jones last game late in the game. Jones had a sprained ankle but he'll be playing vs BC and will start the game as a centre. #58 OG Brandon Craighead is not so lucky as he will be sitting out tomorrow night. #58 Shane Bergman will replace him in the lineup. Bergman played well last season in his only game in the CFL. R Jeff Fuller had a great game vs the Eskimos last week. He caught 4 catches for 67 receiving yards and 1 TD. Often injured R Jabari Arthur will be back in the lineup tomorrow. This is his first game this season. With Nik Lewis out, expect Anthony Parker to be the starting in the slotback position.
DEFENSE :
DB Brandon McDonald played his first CFL vs the Eskimos last week and looks like he is a keeper. He only had 1 tackle in the game but that might improve against the team who released him in the training camp. CB Fred Bennett has been the best DB Stamps have this season so far. Last week, he had 8 tackles, 1 INT and 1 knockdown pass. DB Brandon Smith was pretty good too with 8 tackles and 1 sack. #90 Canadian DT Quinn Smith will be back in the lineup after being scratch last week due to injury.
I can see Charleston Hughes and company are so anxious to get to Kevin Glenn tomorrow night. BC Lions surrendered the league leading 21 QB sacks already this season.
SPECIAL TEAM :
Score ONE win for the ST last week. With the offense struggled in the first half, Stamp fans has to thank the ST play vs the Eskies. Led by Keenan MacDougall who had a blocked punt, fumble recovery and 1 TD, the special team stopped a crucial gamble by the Eskimos before the end of the first half. Eskimos ran a fake punt at the end zone only to be stopped by Stamps special team. After that stop, Bo Levi threw a TD strike to Fuller. K Rene Paredes finally had a good perfect game in this season. He was perfect 4 for 4 on the field goal.
Tim St. Pierre replaced the injured Randy Chevrier as a long snapper against his former team Eskimos. It's been awhile since Chevrier missed a game but St. Pierre made sure the Stamps did not missed a beat. Chevrier will miss another game tomorrow.
