Surprised that the A's gave up Cespedes, although other than his first year, his numbers for the last two (this year and last year) are not crazy overwhelming. If Gnomes can get a little bit back on track for them....

Flickered, what do you think they do next? Trade now some of their starting pitching and/or prospects for an outfielder or 1B? Or something else?

For reference, here are Cespedes and Gnomes stats noted below:

Losing Cespedes takes the potential for a big bash out of the order but Cespedes is really inconsistent at the plate and his obp is .298 over his first 2 years.

yeah Cespedes is effectively no different than Jonny Gomes.

my hot take: This is a terrible trade for Boston. Like absolutely, positively terribly horrible. 1 year (effectively, since this is now a tank) plus a 2nd-3rd round turn draft pick for a legit ace rental. Its probably worth pointing out they're sending him to the place they can be most certain is only renting, but still ... he could have turned into a much better long term asset.
