It's funny that being practical and maximizing space by being a box is considered weird these days! Sounds totally reasonable to me. And yeah, I've always loved the Cherokee too..there's something very honest about that design.

The one reasonably priced vehicle I've always loved is the 90s Toyota Previa. It's such an anomaly. It's mid-engined (something you rarely see outside of a sports car), had AWD, and it came in a manual transmission...all in a package that I think still looks better than any van out there today. I would totally rock this.

I've also been a big fan of the Toyota Hi-Ace, that we unfortunately can't get here. This thing has a tiny foot-print, but massive interior space. It's a workhorse in many parts of the world, and wish we had it here, as I think it would make a great taxi/delivery van/etc.

Speaking of reasonably priced vehicles we can't get, I've always been a big fan of the Toyota Landcruisers you can get in the rest of the world. Love the boxy simplicity of them (not unlike that Cherokee), and they seem like real workhorses. Also like that there's no overt dick swinging "I'm tougher than tough" aura about it that you get with most of the trucks that are available here.

Geez, looks like I like Toyotas. I love what Toyota used to be in the 90s...and it seems you can get a bit of that in other parts of the world still. Here we seem to just get soulless appliances.
