To be fair, Ferland had that 'bust' potential that year when his conditioning was lacking. Especially after seeing Howse go through the paces, I know many became down on him (myself included). Before that season, he was looked upon as one of the 'gems' in the pool. Not one of the guys you can bank on in making the team and a cornerstone, but a guy that was looked at very positively. Remember Feaster talking about him saying stuff like: "Ferland doesn't know how good he is", etc. Though he got injured, he came to camp committed and prepared which alleviated a lot of worries, and then went on a great points run until his injury.
To see him jump up shouldn't be a huge surprise. It isn't that he jumped up from last year, it is that he essentially returned to closer to where his ranking should be after dropping the year before.
