Turek - 2 shutouts to start his Flames career and a fantastic first 20 games. Just had sense we finally had a legit goalie after years of 1 hit wonders - Wregget/Fuhr/Brathwaite/Moss/Trefiolv/ Vernon Part 2 etc etc etc
That season he ended up with almost identical stats to Salo up north in wins, save percentage and GAA...The Oilers made the playoffs and he was the team MVP, FLames had no talent and didn't make the playoffs.
Got crapped on in Jan 2004 for a bad game against Tampa... let in a weak goal from the side boards, then started getting shelled...got the point where he was booed off the ice for letting in a 2 on 0 and 3 on 1 goal. Being there, that was low light for me as a Flames fan to that day for the treatment he got. Sutter didn't play him at home again until mop up duty in the playoffs against (I think) SJ Game 4.
In March, stood on his head to beat the Canucks in Vancouver which almost clinched the playoff spot. The fact that Lowry gave Turek the hardhat in the Finals after a win, goes to show that he took it all as a pro. Then, approaching Sutter, restructuring his final year of the deal in order to stay in Calgary, and, allow them to pay Kipper, was totally selfless on his part (thoguh the lockout negated that coming to pass).
