Boston: home town and currently contenders. However, they are clearly on the decline and have no replacements for Bergeron or Kreijci in the system (not saying they'll be gone in a year or anything, but things can change quickly). I see Boston as a good choice short-term, but very risky long-term.
Calgary: not competitive today, but a really deep collection of young talent. Really good young C depth, and a weakness at RW. I would not only see Calgary as a good chance to make the NHL quickly, but also as an excellent organization to be a part of for the next 10 to 15 years (i.e. my whole career).

Yeah but you are looking at it through the lens of a fan.
Hayes would look at Boston and see a history of success going back thirty years. Boston hasn't missed the playoffs more then two years in a row since the 1960's. Boston has pretty much always been a good team, and when they dip they recover quickly.
Calgary isn't really in that same boat.
I don't think a guy like Hayes can afford to look 10-15 years down the road anyway so its probably a moot point.
I would think any team that makes him the best assurance of NHL ice time in the next couple of years is the leading candidate.
