If I am Hayes and I am looking at Boston and Calgary (just keeping it a simple two-horse race for the sake of argument), my choice would be clear...

Boston: home town and currently contenders. However, they are clearly on the decline and have no replacements for Bergeron or Kreijci in the system (not saying they'll be gone in a year or anything, but things can change quickly). I see Boston as a good choice short-term, but very risky long-term.

Calgary: not competitive today, but a really deep collection of young talent. Really good young C depth, and a weakness at RW. I would not only see Calgary as a good chance to make the NHL quickly, but also as an excellent organization to be a part of for the next 10 to 15 years (i.e. my whole career).
