Yes major juniors actually have the advantage if they want to go this route, because the don't have to wait until the end of the 4th summer to become UFAs, if the go that route. I believe the would usually become FA ~ June 28th.

They just really have nowhere to play in the 4th year. But i'm sure a good enough player could get an AHL contract independent of NHL affiliation.
