crazy the run-off ended up being so close. guessing a goalie prospect's quality seems so hard to extrapolate. Different leagues, different team style's/defensive quality, different quality of opposition, etc. Other than watching the pure mechanics of a goalie prospect, i think trying to determine what a team has in a goalie prospect is downright impossible for the average fan, until you see them play games in the NHL.
Even then, playing games with little to nothing on the line is much different than playing on a team with expectations (lot of goalies do great when given a look during rebuilds or during call ups at the end of the season than they do at the beginning of the season).
I'm glad that the flames took the goalie with the 54th overall this year, and more importantly took the guy they wanted, not the goalie that was left on the board. more so than any other position, i think goalie drafting is more and more a probabilities game than anything, so having plenty of horses in the race is the way to go.
Heck, i'd argue that we could have had the poll as: who's the best flames goalie prospect, and we likely still would come out with a 3-way tie.
