I'm inclined to agree with Joynny199r. I also grew up in the Maritimes (moved to Calgary in 2002), and don't really see any appeal to the region at all (outside of Halifax which is a cool university town).
He's also bang-on with his comment about lack of minorities. That was by far the most striking thing that stood out for me on my first trip home after living in Calgary for several months. I recently looked at my old high school yearbook; in my class of ~400 graduating students, there were three visible minorities. THREE!
