I have a 2008 X5 with about 95,000 kms on it, and I've owned it for about 2 years. I love the vehicle. I don't find the maintenance anywhere near as bad as people are saying, and I get mine serviced at a dealership. I've had my rear brakes changed, a headlight replaced, oil changed, and some other minor stuff. The costs seemed slightly above other cars I've had, but nothing major.
The vehicle is terrible on gas mileage, but I knew that going in. It's an SUV, with the majority of mileage being used in the city, and requires premium gasoline. Obviously it's much more to fill up, and it goes through gas faster, than a Civic, but it's an added cost that I don't mind paying to have the vehicle I want.
