I think the Holocaust was more about ethnic cleansing than religion. Lots of Christians (Slavs, Gypsies) were also exterminated. I don't think converting would have saved any Jew from going to the camps.
Hitler was a lapsed Catholic so who knows what his actual beliefs were. It seems to be a big debate between Christians and Atheists. I don't really see how it matters, he would have been a monster irregardless.
