That first appeared in a GM truck in 2002 in the Avalanche. Had a couple of those (OEM tent attachment FTW - with the midgate down, could start up the truck if cold and warm yourself up) and they were ahead of their time in some regards...the internal midgate allowing 8ft+ long loads, side locking, draining cargo storage boxes which Ram adopted a couple years back and cladding which was to prevent scratches of paint if travelling throw low level brush. Also had the rare 8100 for a couple years.

Cladding turned people off and after 2004 they offered both until the 2007 redesign when it was dropped entirely.

The biggest thing for the GM's in 2014 is the interior. Dead quiet (almost too quiet), and upgraded dash, and soft touch materials. Would've liked if they would've given as much room in the rear as the F150 and my mind would be made up. Who knows if the aluminum f150 will carry that same size rear cabin but they should.

With GM's troubles a few years back, these trucks got pushed back at least 2 years later for the redesign than they would've gotten and IMO didn't quite go far enough on the exterior (or at least GMC should've went a little more aggressive and bold with styling, and left the Silverado conservative, as it has turned out). I am guessing the next redesign won't be 7 years...3 or 4 at most to keep up for CAFE regulations...though the return of the all new smaller pickups this fall should be good sellers as well as they may good enough for many people in the cargo hauling dept.
