I wouldn't call it selfish, unless you are going to buy them a gift, and instead of getting them a gift you get something for yourself. But just getting something for yourself isn't selfish.

As for me i'm a cheapskate I don't buy anything unless I absolutley need it and even then I have a big case of buyers remorse afterwards.
