Except there are 6, maybe 7 depending on how people feel about Leopold and his health, better defensemen on the team. It is unlikely he is paired with anyone in St. Louis and only sees play-off time from the PB/stands.
I guess it is a good deal in that he wasn't likely offered much by anyone and allows him and his wife to live in the city they want for the start of the NHL season but hard to see how this is a good deal for his NHL career going forward.
