Back in the 80s, Duhatschek wrote an excellent article on Kent Nilsson, who had left the NHL in his prime as one of the most talented players in the league, and was playing in Bolzano, Switzerland. The season before, he had scored 19 points in 21 playoff games with the Oilers. It painted a portrait of a much less rigorous professional regime than the NHL, and Nilsson dominating the league by putting in about a third of the effort he had to in the NHL. I remember the end of the article, where Duhatschek described Nilsson eating a box of bon-bons in the dressing room after a game, grinning and saying how much he enjoyed Switzerland. The implication was that Nilsson was wasting his remarkable talents.
