There is a lot of growth through this region, I know that Sylvan has grown in the 3 yrs we have lived there, from 12,000ish to 13,500ish.
Can't be understated. Every time I get the chance to come back from down east it is unbelievable how much growth the city/region is having. I am impressed the city is consulting/planning as much as they are on smart growth and the ways the city can learn to grow smartly as opposed to quickly. However I do believe it is a regional concern that Red Deer and towns like Lacombe, Sylvan, Innisfail and even Ponoka need to address together. As the mid-point between the major cities as they grow larger more people will be looking at Central AB as a place to settle in a "quieter" area. If the transportation links that connect CGY-RD-EDM improve (ie HSR, even 150 kmh trains, hyperloop, etc.) then I think you could see this growth grow exponentially.

If the region can come together and manage to offer the people of the province a big-city esque feel in a smaller centre I think the region could position itself well as a well-known place to visit/live.
