Personally, I'd rather live in a cheaper townhouse within walking distance to a ctrain station, and use the extra money I save in transportation and housing costs to travel or retire early, but I'm well aware 98% of Calgarians with kids don't feel the same way as me.

It comes down to where you are in life. In in the burbs now because for my kids. It is just a better place to bring them up. When they move out, I will move in. I will look for something in the beltline.
It drives me nuts reading comments from the hard core density people (SSP) about all the sprawl. Calgary is changing significantly from when I grew up here. Look at all the condo developments going on. We are finally developing better housing choices in the core and beltline but that doesn't mean the end of the burbs or that is should. People have to go somewhere and young families (for the most) can't afford to buy into places like Mission or Kensington.
