Ironically this ranking, though unspectacular, does speak to the Flames taking a step. A lot of players that had a role in that 2004 run were on the 2002 list.

Yeah, there have definitely been worse ones than 2002. At least there are a good number of NHLers there.
What always seems to be missing from these old lists is any sort of wow factor, where you felt a player truly had the potential to be a star (outside of Phaneuf, which was a deservedly hyped pick). I don't ever remember getting excited about the potential of a Flames prospect in the way I am about the current crop. Who knows if they will ever turn into stars, but in previous years we'd be putting all our hopes into a Morgan Klimchuck level guy, and hoping he would emerge as a star (even though you never really expected it to happen). No offense to Klimchuck.
