One of our dogs was 1 year old when we got her. She was very stressed initially. She's a completely different dog than the one we brought home.

You clearly have no clue what you are talking about. Watch a video of a soldier coming home and the greeting he/she gets from their dog. There's tons on YouTube.

I don't know if upset is the right word but the dog can definitely suffer from anxiety and stress.

Also the guy should have pulled it together a little bit.
