Health Care - particularly Neurology and Psychiatry - are very, very good in Edmonton over Calgary. This is only a couple of areas of industry among other things that Edmonton does have an advantage over Calgary (FYI I'm going on anecdotal evidence based on having some level of connection to multiple medical folks in Alberta healthcare.) Edmonton still has a a rather robust job market compared to most other places in the country.
It's also less corporate-y, which appeals to some.
I may end up there myself next year, and honestly it's not as bad as people make it out to be (if you disclude that disgrace of a hockey franchise).
