I did some looking at what I thought were out of the way hotels, but along the C Train line, but they were still ~$175 per night.

Maybe try an outlying city like Okotoks, Airdrie, or Okotoks. I would think you could get a Greyhound ticket into town for a lot less than the difference in hotel costs.

Or as silly as it may be, Fotze's suggestion of the Cecil might just be in your price range. Just be forwarned though. When the ask you if you pee'd in the ice machine; it's a trick question. If you say no, you'll be told "Then it's your turn."
