Still, in the end, if ownership can't make it economically feasible with an aging arena and have a choice between another jurisdiction's subsidized modern arena versus paying one wholly by themselves, I think you know which one they'll pick.

It seems like in the NHL, trying to get public funding is accompanied by threats to leave. Not always, but often. I wonder if Bettman would go to bat for Calgary like he did for Pittsburgh or Phoenix?
I didn't follow the Sonics situation, but did the NBA try to help them out at all?
