I don't think threatening to leave the city if they don't get free money would go over well with most Calgarians. What exactly would be the reason? Fan support here is some of the best in the league, corporate support here is abundant, and the current owners are some of the wealthiest in the NHL...what exactly would be the reason to leave?

This is not the 90s where everything was working against the Flames. Calgary as a city is at the stage where if the current franchise leaves, there would another one replacing it soon enough. It seems like every time there's an NHL team up for sale in the US, there's a Calgarian in the mix. I think there would be plently of oil egos wanting to get on that train.
