Yes, and consider that every report I've heard suggests the furniture being sold was essentially worthless... very old, in some cases more than 20 years old. They were even selling a plastic tree bought in the 80's. These assets had so little value that even if judgements were to go against the grandfather personally, nobody would bother seizing these items for sale at auction. So the estate sale probably had two purposes, first, not having to dispose of anything at the dump, and second, getting at least some money out of what they have.

At the same time, holding an estate sale where the whole world is invited into your home to see what you have, and having your grandson sleep over that night, aren't things someone who fears for their safety would do. So this caught them by surprise for sure.
