The Columbus Blue Jackets are pleased to announce the acquistion of gritty defensive forward Mike Ricci from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the Calgary 1st rounder in the 2007 entry draft.

"Ricci is a strong defensive presence we feel is neccessary for our third line, his salary is high, but a UFA would cost even more, and may not be as effective." GM Trotta stated, "San Jose is kicking in 750k for next season to help defray the costs of his salary, and he should easily fit in our budget."

There were rumors that Columbus was shopping around one of their two 1st rounders in the 2007 draft, and now that one has been shopped, it is likely that their own first rounder is safe. Another rumor is that defensive forward Dave Scatchard is feeling less secure with the acquisition of Ricci.
