That BC plate is an example of what not to do.

License plates are for identifying a car. It's helpful if the license plate also identifies where that car is from at a glance. Anything that detracts from that is to be avoided completely. A perfect example of this is Oregon.

When you license your car in Oregon, it appears that you can "support" any number of causes with your license. Wildlife. Your local alma mater. Bicycling. There are hundreds of these things. Thing is, it makes it hard to determine if the car you are looking at is from Oregon, or from somewhere else. And with all the busyness, it actually makes reading the plate that much harder. Defeats the purpose of having a number on the plate if you can't read it.

It's a mess. None of this is necessary. A plate should be for recognizing a car and identifying it. I'm not against changing the plate, and can recognize the logo "Wildrose Country" has legitimate reasons for change. But don't end up with a mess like this. One change, across the board.
