I was once the lowest man on the totem pole at a big company. Literally the lowest -- 500 people there and every one of them was my boss and I was the lowest paid person. I was the mail cart pusher/courier signer-inner.
One day the "head lawyer/big boss man" and his executive assistant come storming into my "workspace" and says "where the hell is Document X from Law firm Y? They sent it over weeks ago. This is going to cost us millions"!
For a couple hours I was under the impression, and so was everyone else, that I had effed up something big. I didn't know how big, but big enough to definitely make it my last day and maybe a few others. I really didn't care about the money the company might lose, but I didn't want to get anyone fired. Bla bla bla we finally follow the paper trail and sure enough, this "executive assistant" had taken the thing right out of my hands and signed for it. What she did with it next I never found out, but I was vindicated and she seriously looked like she was going to keel over. Later I learned that it was some sort of lawsuit/judgement/ or something and the number involved was 150 million bucks.
In other news: here's a tip for you office types -- be nice to those guys pushing the carts. They have access to a lot of stuff, including your precious mail, and sometimes it goes right into the garbage if you are a ******head.
