If that is indeed correct that's incredible, almost unbelievable. They signed him for less then what his qualifying offer would have been (he made $643,500 and would have been due a 10% raise in the QO) just to stay at a one way contract. No wonder they wanted nothing to do with arbitration, Byron would easily be awarded triple that.
By comparison, Lance Bouma's QO would be at least $635K, Hanowski about $850K and Ortio about $605K. Granted those are all probably 2 way contracts but that's what the qualifying offer to them would have been at bare minimum.
