It isn't about getting sentimental, it is about a guy who deserves to be on the team due to his on ice performance. Byron was one of the best players on the Flames many nights last year.
47 GP, 7 G, 14 A, 21 Points in limited ice time. His +6 was second best +/- on the Flames. Just turned 25 years old. 29 takeaways to 13 giveaways. Speed to burn, much grit, great on the PK.
If somebody is able to push Byron off the team then great news for us. I just believe we have no idea what his ceiling is at this point. I think he has a lot more to show than he did last season and last season was a pretty solid starting point.
The guy has only played a total of 81 games in his NHL career thus far. Nobody can say with any certainty what kind of NHLer he will develop into.
