As for the arbitration case, clearly the Flames didn't think he was going to be worth the $ that potentially could be awarded, so the rolled the dice, cut him loose and then offered him less on a one year contract...

I think management thought very highly of Byron's abilities as a player and realized that would get him a sizable contract through arbitration, but they thought he might be worth a little less to the Flames than to the average NHL team based on the big and t r u c u l e n t (good luck finding that one, sun

) team that we're trying to build.
I think the fact that he got re-signed proves that Flames management appreciates what Byron brings to the ice and/or to the hard-working culture of the team. Either way, I'm glad to see him back.
