It's obviously an over-payment, but apparently there was a bidding war for him so he must have some positives. Won't hurt the team long term with the salary cap, because the Flames will unlikely be pressed up against the cap the next 3 seasons. Like Treliving said he will be a good mentor for the young players on this team. Plus he is a RH shot which most people here salivate over.
Only two players will probably be asking for big raises for 2015-16: Brodie and Backlund
In 2016-17 you have: Monahan, Gaudreau, Giordano up for new contracts.
So I don't see his contract as an issue.
