I don't see anything wrong with the Macdonald pick. Yes, I understand it's better to pick goalies in the later rounds, but if the scouts had Macdonald as their number one choice and they felt he wouldn't be available later on then I'm glad the Flames got the player they wanted on their list.

Button's take on the last few drafts is always the part of the draft I'm most interested in over Feaster/Trevling's takes. To me it seems the Flames draft far better when they stick to their lists and rely on numerous indepth interviews with the guys they really want. (For example last year with Poirier even though Hunter had dropped) Sounds like Macdonald was really high on their list and given the run of goalies right after their pick, he wasn't going to be there at Smith's pick.
