No I think he was trying to add a top 3 player If all rumors are true. With his efforts to move players that didnt want to be there (Kesler) and Garrisons contract . IT looked like TO ME that he was looking to add a piece or two for a re-tool rather than a rebuild. Since he wasn't able to acquire the pieces he needed for a re- tool he now is stuck in a rebuild.
Edit. Even with his Duthie interview he deflected the rebuild or retool question. He said "We brought ppl in we think we can win with." I agree there in rebuild mode but Until they admit it I take it as " We retooled and we are making a push." Only after free agency and up even until the Mid point of the season will we really see what benning is planning . With the Canucks only a few years being removed from the final and the first time they have missed the playoffs in a while they are still stuck in the We can win it all still mindset. And at 80/km without a helmet .I wouldn't be say anything .. At anytime or anywhere . I would be dead as you can get.
