I honestly couldn't think of a better player to have him modeling himself after and teaching him than Doug Gilmour. You get a kid who commits to a two-way game down the middle of the ice like that and you've got something special. When Dougie was on his game, and it was very rare he wasn't, he was often the best offensive and defensive player on the ice at the same time.
I'm not sure what got people all worked up about this German kid. Size? He's listed at one inch and 25 pounds heavier? I'll take the heart and soul of the Canadian kid over the European each and every day.
